18.06.2010-Newspaper usage for art and craft
In sync with R-2 i.e. Reduce the second level of R-4 initiative taken by QVS, an art and craft workshop was conducted at QVS for teachers on 18th jun10 with help of old newspapers, fevicol and scissors, the teachers, under the guidance of Mr. Dalchand worked wonders and created things like paper bags, wall-hangings, masks etc.
It was an enjoyable and lively session through out. In stark contrast to their usual cognitive experiences, the cutting-pasting activity involved the teachers motor skills. Caught among the piles of newspapers around them, teacher's could be seen enjoying the activity.
17.06.2010-The art of public speaking
Speaking is an art which, if accomplished well, touches the heart and soul of the listener.
Teaching, becomes effective if the teacher has a thorough hold of this art. Mrs. Ira Sehgal, the resource person enlightened the teachers at QVS on the same. A plethora of ideas came from teacher's end too. Each and every vital aspect of Public Speaking was touched upon - body language, clarity of diction, logical reasoning, fluency etc. She also conducted an interactive session by inviting the teachers to debate on various educational topics. Being a national level debtor herself, she gave valuable inputs on preparing students for debates. It was a lively and highly informative session.
16.06.2010-Collage making
Through a familiar activity, collage making workshop held at QVS turned out to be anything but that. Simple twists and turns of paper in the hands of a skillful resource person, Ms. Silky Khanna, led to creation of unexpected and marvelous pieces of work. In addition to serving the purpose of beautiful art work, the collage work conveyed social messages like save water, save paper, save environment etc.
A blend of simplicity and attractive appearance not just made the collage eye-catching but also turned out to be a success in appealing to the on-lookers. Not only teachers but also the students can avail the utility of this activity, through their teachers.
15.06.2010-Usage of newspaper articles in the classroom
A greatly informative workshop on "Newspaper Usage in Classroom Teaching" was conducted by the person Mrs. Ira Sehgal. Emphasising the importance of making the students proficient in functional aspect of English language. She stressed upon encouraging newspaper reading habits among them.
She encouraged the teachers to utilize newspaper as an effective tool for their day to day teaching. Reading , comprehension exercises, G.K., note making etc. are some of the many exercises which can be taken up with the newspapers as each child is equipped with her own copy of newspaper in the classroom. Hence the workshop stressed upon ensuring effective usage in English, Science as well as Social Science
14.06.2010-19.6.2010-Calligraphy workshop
Hand writing reflects a person's character and beautiful handwriting is a gift. Other than the scientifically recommended Marion Richardson script, QVS teachers tried their hands at calligraphic techniques to this straight script. Effectively taken up by Mr. Anup Das, a well experienced calligrapher, the five days workshop witnessed an enthusiastic participation by the teachers.
An equal zest was displayed by SGS teachers who joined their counter parts at QVS to learn this art of beautiful writing. Learning the alphabet in different fonts and sizes right from the scratch, made the teachers nostalgic about their initial learning days. The workshop indeed left the teachers treasure of handwriting art brimming.
